PESPA is seeking a Seasonal Museum Store Manager to lead the daily operations of our historic park store. This flexible, part-time role is ideal for someone who enjoys working with visitors, volunteers, managing inventory, and helping support a beloved local State Park destination in Johnsville.
Position Overview
The Museum Store Manager oversees the daily operations of the PESPA Museum Store, supporting the organization’s mission to enhance visitor experience and raise funds for the park. This is a flexible, seasonal, part-time position that runs from early spring through fall, averaging approximately 350 hours over the season. Compensation is hourly and currently $22 per hour, but negotiable commensurate with experience.
Key Responsibilities
Store Operations
Manage day-to-day operations of the museum store, ensuring a clean, organized, and well-stocked retail environment.
Monitor sales trends and adjust inventory and displays accordingly to maximize profitability.
Utilize Square POS and Retail tools for inventory management, sales tracking, and reporting.
Coordinate end-of-season inventory counts and update POS system accordingly.
Inventory & Purchasing
Order merchandise from approved vendors and manage all purchasing logistics, including shipping and receiving.
Maintain accurate inventory records and ensure all products are properly labeled and priced.
Track sales and restock best-selling items as needed.
Handle seasonal purchases such as snacks, beverages, firewood, ice, and ice cream.
Volunteer Coordination
Recruit, schedule, and support volunteers to staff the store during operating hours (typically 9 a.m. – 4 p.m., 7 days a week during peak season between Memorial Day and the end of September).
Serve as the primary point of contact for store volunteers and create a supportive, engaged team culture.
Use communication tools to keep volunteers informed of store updates, needs, and procedures.
Financial Oversight
Track store revenue and expenses, reconcile Square reports with physical deposits, and maintain accurate financial records.
Coordinate with PESPA Treasurer regarding purchases, invoices, and deposits.
Prepare monthly sales summaries and contribute to the organization’s financial reporting.
End-of-Season Duties
Conduct and submit an End-of-Year (EOY) inventory report.
Close out and securely store all merchandise and store materials.
Pause Square Retail subscription as needed.
Solicit volunteer feedback and send end-of-season acknowledgments.
Additional Responsibilities
Communicate with PESPA Board and participate in meetings when requested or as needed.
Support special events or other sales-related activities as requested.
Qualifications
Previous retail, merchandising, or store management experience preferred.
Strong organizational, communication, and leadership skills.
Ability to work independently and flexibly, including occasional on-site presence.
Comfort with basic bookkeeping, POS systems (Square preferred), and spreadsheets.
Enthusiasm for working with volunteers and a commitment to PESPA’s mission.
Work Conditions
Flexible hours based on seasonal needs, with some duties performed remotely.
Must be available to visit the park and store site as required.
Some lifting and physical activity involved in restocking and setting up inventory.
